Minority Leadership Training Program
July 21 @ 8:00 am - July 22 @ 5:00 pm
The OEA Minority Leadership Training Program targets OEA Ethnic Minority members and is designed to provide a foundation for inclusive leadership in our Association as we advocate for all members and the learners they serve. The training fosters development of an understanding of organizational culture, an appreciation for cultural diversity & inclusiveness, and the identification & demonstration of skills required for effective leadership in a multicultural setting. The training also explores the importance of minority involvement at all levels of the Association.
Inclusive Leadership is the theme of the 2017 program. Participants will explore the value and characteristics of inclusive leadership and develop the knowledge and skills to foster inclusive environments for members. Participants will also understand the structure and workings of the Association, including the relationship among governance, staff and programs while gaining a better understanding of various leadership levels (National, State, District and Local) so that they can identify where they can increase their involvement in the Association.
The initial training will commence on Friday evening and conclude late Saturday afternoon. The session is limited to 40 participants. There is no cost for this training and it includes dinner, breakfast and lunch. Hotel accommodations for Friday night is available if participants do not live near the training location. The registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
