A Message from the President

The OEA will lead the way for continuous improvement of public education while advocating for members and the learners they serve.

That is our mission. It guides the members of the Ohio Education Association as they strive, every day, to provide Ohio's children in pre-kindergarten and K-12 public schools and institutions of higher learning with a world-class quality education. This vision also guides the officers and staff of this Association as we work to improve the professional well-being of OEA members, while improving the quality of public education in Ohio.

We have high hopes for the role of OEA and our members. Our vision statement is

OEA - the hallmark of excellence in education.

We want to be an outstanding symbol excellence in education, and to be known and recognized for the expertise that our members provide schools and education policy makers throughout Ohio. It is an ambitious vision, but one we relish.

As education professionals, we recognize that the challenges of today's world are much more complex and demanding than even five years ago. We experience on a daily basis the need for a system of student standards that incorporates realistic but high expectations for student learning;curricula aligned with those standards; the resources needed to implement the curricula; and valid, reliable, age-appropriate assessment instruments that will fairly measure students' attainment of the standards.

We are your teachers, bus drivers, faculty members, cafeteria workers, school secretaries, custodians, boiler operators, educational aides, school nurses, librarians, media technicians and bus mechanics. We work with Ohio's school children and college students in their pursuit of a quality education.

We invite you to help your local public schools, colleges, universities and students in whatever way you can -- from volunteering in a reading program to working on school levies, serving on boards of education or boards of trustees, or, as a parent, becoming involved in your local and state PTA or PTO.

As OEA President, I welcome you to our web site and invite you to take a look at who we are, the issues that are important to us, and the goals we are committed to achieving as we strive to ensure that Ohio's citizens are provided a high quality public education system. Join us in making all of Ohio's public schools the best in the nation!
