Affiliate Departments and Associate Organizations

Ohio Association of Developmental Disabilities Professionals (OADDP) -- The mission of the OADDP is to advance the growth of the education and habilitation of individuals with developmental disabilities and to provide a collective voice for the professional, paraprofessional and support staff working with persons with developmental disabilities.

The Ohio Association of Education Support Professionals (OAESP) protects the welfare of its members and advances their interests. The OAESP establishes and maintains helpful, friendly relationships within the association, the public school community and throughout the State of Ohio. Membership is open to any dues paying ESP who is an active member of the OEA. The membership year shall be September 1 to August 31. The Ohio Association of Education Support Professionals maintains affiliation with the Ohio Education Association (OEA) and the National Education Association (NEA).

The Ohio Foreign Language Association (OFLA) is a K-17 organization of foreign language educators in the state of Ohio. The OFLA is committed to making foreign languages an essential part of every school's core curriculum, beginning in the primary grades, so that every student graduates from high school proficient in a second language. The Ohio Educational Theatre Association represents and serves all secondary schools in Ohio that have active thespian or junior thespian troupes. We also have an adult membership and are affiliated with the Educational Theatre Association and the International Thespian Society. The Ohio Middle Level Association (OMSA) believe that a middle school is an educational process that serves the needs of the middle level children. Middle schools maintain their child-centered focus by developing programs and activities that nurture the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical well-being of the young adolescent. The middle level environment is a positive, caring, and motivating learning atmosphere that recognizes and is attentive to the variety and learning styles and enhances self-esteem. The Ohio Technology Education Association (OTEA) advances technology educators as influential and respected leaders in the process of educating all Ohio students. OTEA provides focus and leadership in curriculum and professional development for technology educators to advance the technological capabilities of Ohio students.

The Speech Communication Association of Ohio (SCAO) is a professional organization of communications teachers, professors, and scholars in high schools and universities/colleges throughout the State of Ohio. The organization is affiliated with the National Communication Association. The SCAO also publishes an annual journal in communication research.

The Science Education Council of Ohio (SECO) promotes and supports excellence in science teaching and learning for all. SECO is a non-profit organization run by elected officers and a board of directors. SECO is the state chapter of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). The Ohio School Counselors Association (OSCA) is the professional organization to serve school counselors. We encourage membership in the American School Counselor Association but do not require it for membership. The Ohio Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (OAHPERD) promotes healthy, active lifestyles and life long learning through opportunities for professional leadership and development, service and advocacy. OAHPERD is working collaboratively with the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Legislature to improve the quantity and quality of wellness education in Ohio schools.
