OEA members showed up in large numbers to support Governor Ted Strickland's push to overhaul Ohio's public education curriculum and funding system. Gov. Strickland was joined by U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and other top education officials at the rally, Ohio's Revival: Reforming Education for the 21st Century Economy, that took place on the west lawn of the Schottenstein Center at Ohio State University on May 9, 2009.
Other speakers included U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, State Representative Steve Dyer, former State Senator C.J. Prentiss, and Nathan DeRolph. DeRolph was 15 years old in 1991 when he and his father filed a lawsuit arguing that Ohio's school funding system was unconstitutional. The school-funding system has been found unconstitutional by the Ohio Supreme Court four times since that lawsuit was filed. Click here to read Associated Press coverage of the event.
Before the rally, ProgressOhio interviewed Gov. Strickland about what Ohioans really need to know about education reform.
