The News and Communications operations of the Association help advance public education and the Association by making sure information on key issues is shared. OEA reaches out to many external audiences such as parents, policymakers, the general public and others through numerous efforts and programs. Some programs include media work such as issuing statewide press releases and conducting editorial board visits. OEA also sponsors media campaigns that include print and electronic advertising and image programs and we coordinate special events and public relations opportunities.

The National Education Association is projecting at least 125,000 educator layoffs or more. State and local budgets are at critical levels, more cuts are looming, and the prospect of larger class sizes, less individual attention and more crowded school buses has parents concerned.
