Read Across America 2014
Get ready to grab your hat and read with the Cat in the Hat on Monday, March 3, 2014 for the 17th annual Read Across America Day (RAA). The Seussical celebration will kick off a week of reading across the nation as NEA members gather students, parents, and community members together to share their love of reading.
It's never too early to plan your event. Here and on NEA's RAA web pages, you can find tips and resources to help you make your event Seussational.
NEA’s Cat-a-Van Reading Tour to Visit several Ohio Cities
NEA's 2014 Cat-a-Van tour will travel 4,000 miles across the country — bringing with it a celebration of reading to students at 30 schools— and give away books, posters, and other goodies all across the reading tour route. The Cat-a-Van will stop in Pickerington and Hilliard, Ohio on March 6 and in Springfield Local and Akron, Ohio on March 7. The tour will begin Monday, February 24 in Texas and conclude Friday, March 14 in Mississippi, along the way making stops in 18 cities across nine states.
The NEA Cat-a Van tour is made possible through a unique partnership between NEA and Delta Dental, who have teamed up to deliver a very important message to students: 2 x 2 + 20 = good oral health and literacy habits. To keep students reading and brushing at home, books, toothbrushes, posters, and other goodies will be distributed across the reading route. NEA and Delta Dental of Ohio will also be distributing funds to public schools visited by the Cat-a-Van Reading Tour to help keep their libraries stocked with books and other reading inspiration.

Delta Dental of Ohio returns as Sponsor
NEA's Read Across America welcomes back Delta Dental of Ohio as National Sponsor of the Read Across America program, Cat-a-Van tours and state affiliate grants. Thanks to Delta Dental of Ohio, NEA's Read Across America offers resources promoting good oral health and reading skills. What's the connection? Oral health problems cause students across the nation to miss 51 million school hours per year. Students who are absent miss critical instruction time, especially during early grades when improving reading skills are a major focus.
